Can I be sick and fit?

About two years ago, I was diagnosed with an auto-immune arthritis disease. We've finally found a combination of medicines that seem to work so my pain is manageable and, for the most part, bearable. However, it is still a huge part of my life and it has given me a rather negative outlook about my body. I'm hoping that getting in better shape will help improve both my health and my self-image.

--> I'm twenty two.
--> currently 5'10 and approx. 150lbs
--> 35.5 - 27 - 37
--> gluten free diet since April 2012!
--> working out every day when possible!
--> cardio and weight lifting. I'm restricted to mainly low impact exercises, doctor's orders :(

PS: Since this isn't my main blog, I can't follow you back from here. But no worries, I follow everyone back from my main account. <3

I was a little embarrassed to post on here about how we haven’t been exercising recently. However that post did help get me off my butt today and on to the treadmill.
First time on the treadmill in awhile and I still beat my last time (14.10) by almost two minutes!! I finished the mile in 12 minutes and 15 seconds. Its not great compared to some people but its more than enough to make me feel good!!! :)

Between getting sick (more than once) and the weather change, and varying schedules of work and (his) classes, my boyfriend and I haven’t been able to exercise as much as we have been. We had been lifting about three times a week and getting in cardio by taking Titan on walks or going biking. Our trail riding got put on hold while I recovered from the fall back at the end of August. I’m slowly getting better at it but it takes time. Too bad the season for that is almost over.

I’m not angry but I am disappointed in myself.

Last month we both lost 1-2 pounds which doesn’t sound like a lot but considering that we haven’t been at our best, it is nice. Except next week is Thanksgiving so I wouldn’t be surprised if we gained that back.

before-and-after-pictures:

I battled an eating disorder for as long as I can remember. My weight was ALWAYS up and down and up and down. My highest weight was 210lbs. This past year I’ve been trying my best to lose weight and lose it the right way! No more killing myself. I’ve been eating healthy and going to the gym and getting really fit. When I started to gain weight I was FREAKING out and almost went back to my old ways. I took this picture today and even though there isn’t that much of a difference (and maybe you can’t even see it) I know that I see progress. This is the first time in my life that I’m okay with gaining weight and that I’m excited to continue my journey in being HEALTHY and to hopefully living a long and beautiful life!! We got this, ladies! We are worth it! <3

I started focusing on exercising and eating healthy right around the same time you did and I can understand the surprise from gaining weight because I did/have too! I was shocked and freaking out at first but then I started paying more attention to how I was starting to look and I could see an increase in muscle mass in some places. I get obsessive when I weigh myself but when I don’t, I tend to be okay with how I’m doing progress-wise. It’s been almost two weeks since the last time I weighed myself and I’m proud of that.
Also, a good way to keep track of muscle gain is by taking pictures of specific areas while flexing instead of just one body shot. You’ll definitely be able to see more of a difference that way!
You’re doing great so far though, keep it up!

Insight

So I’m pretty sure the reason I’m gaining weight is because I’m building muscle but I’m not losing fat. I’m pretty good about lifting weights three times a week but I’m not as consistent when it comes to doing cardio. I have the time to do it, I’m just being lazy about it. That needs to change. From now on, I need to try and do some type of cardio at least on the days I don’t lift, if not every day.

On the plus side, I have been good about recording my food every day. It helps me keep track and see how well I’ve been eating. Some days are good, some not so good. But it’s a start! :)

I seem to have gained another pound or two but I don’t think it’s muscle this time.. My inner thighs are looking more flabby than normal :/ I guess I shouldn’t be surprised, I haven’t been doing the floor/mat exercises that I had been to tone them. I need to get back into doing that everyday.

On the plus side, I’ve gone on 1 hour + bike rides for the past two days! It was great! I think I need to try and go riding every day if possible. Not today or tomorrow though, since I’ve got to go to work and I won’t have time to take a shower between riding and going there.

I just gotta stick with it and I’ll get that body one day!!!

Oh, the good news is, is that all those squats I’m doing is making my butt look amazingggg. My boyfriend agrees!
